Pancreatic cancer is one of the most insidious cancers ever with no stage IV, 5-year survival after chemo. Chemicals that preserve processed meats directly affect our DNA to increase the risk of cancer. The Journal of the National Cancer Institute reported that the people who ate the most processed meat (bacon, ham, cold cuts) had a 68% higher risk of pancreatic cancer than those who ate the least. A review in the British Journal of Cancer shows a link between processed meats and increased pancreatic cancer. Eating one 50 gram serving a day of processed meat raises the risk of pancreatic cancer risk by 19% but doubles the troubles to 38% when you double the processed meat intake. But that’s not all, a report out of the University of Minnesota shows that charred meats boosts the risk of pancreatic cancer by 60%. Overcooking meats generates heterocyclic amines (H.A.s), which increases the risk of pancreatic cancer, and especially lethal cancer. Another pancreas-wrecker is alloxan, found in processed white flour. Alloxan is a toxin that destroys the beta cells in the pancreas by causing free radical damage to the DNA. Treat your pancreas right by avoiding the things that destroy it. The best time to seek your health is while you still have it!
